Personal Electronics Policy
Internet-enabled personal electronics, including cell phones, iPads, laptops, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and other similar devices, are not permitted for use inside the school building.
If an electronic device is visible or audible anywhere in the building, it will be immediately confiscated.
Once a device is confiscated, it will be given to a school aide, dean, or administrator.
Parents or guardians will be notified by school staff that a device has been confiscated.
Devices will never be returned directly to the student.
The use of personal electronics at school is also subject to the following additional conditions:
Personal electronics may not be turned on or used during any school quiz, test, or examination.
Personal electronics may not be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.
Personal electronics may never be used in locker rooms, bathrooms, the cafeteria, or during Physical Education or Art classes.
Students who use personal electronics in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor’s regulation A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“IAUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance, interventions, and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.
