The SLT is a vital communication link within a school and between the school and its larger community. The SLT is responsible for evaluating the quality of its school’s educational program and its effect on student achievement.
What role do students and community-based organizations play in the SLT's decision-making process?
The School Leadership Team (SLT) is the primary vehicle for parents to work with teachers and the principal to establish school priorities, decide how the budget is spent and evaluate a school’s progress. The Principal, PTA President and UFT Chapter Leader or their designees serve on the SLT. The remaining members of the team include other parents and staff from the school, and may include students (a minimum of two students is required at the high school level) and community-based organizations. Parents are elected by the PTA to serve on the SLT and have the opportunity to directly influence how a school operates.

What topics are typically discussed at SLT meetings?
The SLT is a team of parents, teachers, and administrators who focus on the school’s comprehensive educational plan and ensure that the school budget is aligned with the plan. A wide range of educational issues are also discussed at these meetings. Monthly meetings are open to all parents. Parent members are elected for two-year terms at the June PTA meeting. The SLT meetings monthly, typically on the first Tuesday of the month. Please reach out to the PTA if you would like to attend a SLT meeting in person (Sept, Oct or June) or virtually any month.
