Grades, Progress Reports, Report Cards, and Transcripts
Each school year is divided into two semesters, each with two Marking Periods. You will receive your grades twice a semester; once in the form of a Progress Report, and once as your official grade that is recorded on your permanent record. Each class is worth one (1) credit and will give final transcript grades in January and June, depending on which semester they are taken in. Your report cards, as well as your transcripts, will contain your final grades for your classes as well as your scores on any Regents you took that semester.
At any time you and your parents will be able to review your grades online for all of your classes by accessing the Jupiter Ed app using their login information. Teachers use Google Classroom to distribute and collect work and enter grades for students as well. Parents may access their student’s assignments from Google Classroom by receiving Guardian
Summaries, which are sent out weekly. Any grades in Google Classroom are not official grades and may differ from your final Progress Report and Report Grades. If there is confusion regarding your grades, please be sure to email the teacher concerned to get clarification. Please see the ONLINE GRADEBOOK section of this document for more information.
Grading Periods
BSGE has returned to semester-based classes for the 2025-26 school year. Students will receive 1 credit per class each Semester, for a total of 2 per subject per year.
Students will receive a Progress Report with grades and teacher comments at the end of Marking Periods 1.
At the end of Marking Period 2 in January or June, students will receive a Final Grade, which will go on their transcript. This grade is cumulative of all their grades throughout the semester.
All faculty must maintain grade records containing the grades for exams, quizzes, homework, class participation, etc. in Jupiter Ed, our online grade book.
Grading Policy
All instruction at BSGE is aligned with the assessments and curriculum frameworks of the IB Diploma Program. The following table shows the conversion from the traditional 0-100 grading system to the 1-7 IB grading system. Science Lab courses receive a grade of P (Pass) or F (Fail) based on completion of lab hours and submission of lab reports.
Grading criteria is to include performance on:
Summative Assessments (graded for accuracy): and assignments account for 60% of a student’s grade. Summative Assessment examples: take-home essays, on-demand writing tasks, research papers, projects, IA drafts and exams.
Formative Assessments (graded for accuracy): accounts for 30% of a student’s grade and can include homework, in-class work, lab work, lab reports, quizzes, exploration drafts, and IA drafts (dependent upon the scope of/breadth of the assessment).
Class participation: accounts for 10% of a student’s grade, This may include documented group participation, contributing to classroom discussion, and completion of class activities.
There should be at least 2 Summative Assessments per Marking Period. Grades should be updated in Jupiter Ed by 8am every Monday with new, graded assignments.
Late work
Assignments must be handed in by the due date. Assignments that are handed in after the deadline will incur a penalty. Assignments handed in within 72 hours of the due date will receive a 10% deduction (i.e. a 100 point assignment can only be given a 90, an 80 point assignment can only receive 72 points). Assignments handed in greater than 72 hours after the due date will receive a 25% deduction.
Work not submitted receives a Grade of 45. There is no use of 0. Students may turn in late work subject to the late work policy. For HW assignments that are then covered in class and require no student constructed thinking an acceptable period range can be 1 week or less. For longer, more complex assignments, please give students adequate time based on conversations with them and family.
Students may only turn in late work in the same marking period and may not submit late work within 5 business days of the end of a Marking Period.
