Students who are not granted an interview may reapply for 9th grade admissions to BSGE through the NYCDOE high school application process.

The BSGE admissions interview is a group interview conducted by current BSGE faculty and students in small groups. We do not expect applicants to engage in any special preparation for this interview.

Our admissions test and interview is for the 7th grade admissions process. Please contact your local NYCDOE Family Welcome Center if you have questions regarding transferring middle schools.

These are not available as we change the questions and prompts each year, there is nothing to prepare ahead of time.

We have Rising NYRR, CHAMPS, and club sports (i.e. badminton, volleyball, table tennis).

Students do not have to put BSGE first. List your school choices in your order of preference.

No. We do not read letters of recommendation.

High school admissions deadlines are set by the NYCDOE and your current school. Check with your current counselor.

There are no samples, just read the prompts carefully and answer both within the allotted 3 minutes.

General Admissions FAQ

On average, we receive 650 applications for 7th grade and 3,000 applications for 9th grade; we have around 65 seats available in 7th grade and 40 seats available in 9th grade.

Due to the overwhelming interest in our school and our small school size, we do not offer school tours, accepted students are invited to tour the school in the spring during the accepted student event.

Mandarin, French, Spanish in high school; typically French in middle school (language offerings are subject to change each year).

Due to the small nature of our school and IB requirements, all our students take the same classes, we cannot guarantee personalized schedules (i.e. skipping ahead, taking more than one language at a time, etc.).

We offer visual arts and technology-based electives only. Students are encouraged to explore other interests through clubs.

PSAL varsity teams (HS) include soccer, basketball, table tennis, softball, outdoor track. Through Open Access, students can try out for other sports if “matched” to an area high school. We have Rising NYRR and club sports (i.e. badminton, volleyball, table tennis) for all grades.

Only students with approved accommodation on an IEP or 504 have bus transportation. We do not offer bus transportation to the school as we are a secondary school.

We are accessible by NYC Transit subways and buses.

No sibling priority; Queens priority in HS, citywide access in MS; BSGE does not participate in DIA.
